Israel is accused of attacks on a gas pipeline in Iran
World
According to The New York Times, Israel may have carried out covert attacks on two gas pipelines in Iran on 14 February.
Two Western officials and a military strategist expressed this view.
One of the unnamed officials noted that the strikes were symbolic in nature because Iran would have little difficulty repairing the damaged gas pipelines. However, there was only minor damage to civilians.
The publication's sources believe that in this way Israel has signalled to Iran that it is capable of inflicting damage if the conflict escalates or spreads to the entire Middle East region.
Iran reported two explosions on the Line 65 pipeline on 14 February, with local officials suspecting a possible sabotage. Local media specified that the explosions did not affect the country's gas supply and there were no casualties among the population, officials said.
