On 3 November, Israeli forces attacked an area adjacent to Al Shifa Central Hospital in the administrative centre of the Gaza Strip. The strikes hit a convoy of ambulances bringing the wounded to the Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt and then near the hospital entrance.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported 15 dead and more than 60 wounded in an Israeli military airstrike on a convoy of ambulances outside Al-Shifa Central Hospital. The organisation issued a statement to this effect on its X social network page (formerly Twitter).
"An airstrike on a convoy of 5 ambulances killed 15 people and wounded more than 60 civilians at the entrance to the hospital. PRCS staff - a doctor and an ambulance driver - were injured," the document reads.
According to the organisation, 4 Red Crescent medics were killed and more than 20 injured while carrying out their humanitarian duties, while 8 ambulances were destroyed.
"The deliberate attack on medical teams is a war crime and a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions," the statement said.
Earlier, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was shocked by reports of the attack on ambulances outside al-Shifa hospital and called for an immediate ceasefire.
