Khiva Sets a World Record at the Melon Festival

The three-day international Melon Festival in Khiva concluded with a world record for the largest simultaneous melon tasting. According to the Guinness World Records certificate presented at the event, 259 people took part in the tasting simultaneously on August 9, sampling more than 10 varieties of melon.
The festival was held from August 7 to 9 at the historic Itchan Kala complex and the Arda Khiva tourist complex. It was organized by the Tourism Committee and the Khorezm regional administration.
According to the organizers, this year’s festival attracted 186,000 visitors, including 150,000 domestic and 36,000 international tourists. The three-day programme featured concerts, masterclasses, exhibitions, competitions and tastings.
The record verification was conducted by Şeyda Subaşı Gemici, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator and the organization’s representative for Türkiye and Central Asia.
Districts of Khorezm Region, leading farms and other participants presented dozens of melon varieties, regional products and agricultural achievements.
The festival also concluded with an awards ceremony. First place went to the administration of Yangiboy district, second place to the Khorezm Regional Department of Agriculture, while third place was shared by Urgench State University, the Khorezm branch of UzAuto and the Khorezm Regional Road Administration. The Grand Prize was awarded to the Khiva city administration.
