According to Peskov, the key issue is whether it is possible to reach a deal on a long-term and sustainable peace. If, he said, Kyiv prioritizes short-term and unviable solutions over genuine negotiations, Moscow is unlikely to support such moves.

He stressed that Russia is not prepared to grant Ukraine a pause that could be used to prepare for the continuation of hostilities. “We want peace,” Peskov said.

He added that Russia seeks to end the conflict, achieve its objectives within the framework of the special military operation, and ensure lasting peace and security in Europe.
