Former U.S. President and presidential candidate Donald Trump blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the onset of Russia's war against Ukraine.

During an interview on the PBD podcast, Trump went further in his criticism of Zelensky, suggesting that the Ukrainian leader not only failed to stop the war but also contributed to its beginning. He stated that Zelensky "should never have allowed this war to start" and declared that the war has already been lost.

These comments indicate that if Trump wins the upcoming election, he may drastically change U.S. policy toward Ukraine by potentially halting support. Trump has repeatedly criticized Zelensky throughout his campaign, labeling him "the greatest salesman on Earth" for securing billions in U.S. military aid.

Trump also criticized Zelensky for his inability to achieve peace with Moscow, suggesting that Ukraine might need to cede part of its territory to Russia to secure a peace deal, a concession Kyiv firmly rejects.

Zelensky recently presented his "victory plan" in Ukraine's parliament and the European Council, as well as during a visit to the U.S., including a meeting with Trump in New York. However, Trump’s public comments suggest his policies, if elected, may take a very different direction.
