Karakalpakstan to Expand Feed, Orchard and Melon Production

Karakalpakstan plans to expand feed production, livestock farming, horticulture and melon cultivation. The region also aims to increase employment in agriculture and create new opportunities for young people in information technology and logistics.
Feed production will be launched in Takhtakupyr district based on the experience of Xinjiang. Five thousand sheep and goats will be brought from Mongolia, Türkiye, China and Australia for breeding under Karakalpakstan’s conditions. One thousand hectares of land are to be identified within a month, while projects covering 10,000–15,000 hectares will be developed by year-end. The goal is to establish facilities for 100,000 sheep and goats within one year.
After a visit to Kegeyli Naslli Parranda, the task was set to increase poultry production capacity two- to threefold within a year and transform the enterprise into a holding company. Poultry farming courses will be established at a technical college in Kegeyli. Official information confirms the operation of a major poultry complex in the district.
A three-year program will establish plantations of salt-tolerant plums and late apricot varieties across 30,000 hectares. Work on 10,000 hectares will begin this year. Land will be allocated for each region with guaranteed water supplies, while the Horticulture Agency will provide climate-adapted seedlings and planting technologies. The target is to create 20,000 jobs in horticulture and raise fruit exports to at least $500 million within three years. The 330-hectare industrial orchard in Kegeyli will serve as a model for expansion across Karakalpakstan.
From next spring, melon cultivation will begin on 10,000 hectares in Nukus district. The best varieties, seed-production expertise and agrotechnology specialists will be brought from Spain, the United States, the Netherlands and China by the end of the year. A laboratory and testing site will be established at the district technical college, which will serve as a methodological center for melon growers from several regions.
Construction has begun on the Yangi Uzbekistan — Nukus City residential development in Nukus, covering 270 hectares and including residential, business, retail and service infrastructure.
Youth employment is another priority. Karakalpakstan has 1.1 million young people, including 505,000 aged 14–30. The goal is to provide 1,000 young people with high-income jobs in IT and logistics within one year and another 5,000 over the following two years. By year-end, at least 10 talented compatriots living abroad are to be attracted to Karakalpakstan to launch projects.
