Macron tasked the new Prime Minister with forming a government “capable of withstanding the threat of a vote of no confidence from the National Assembly and approving the budget.”

In early December, the French Parliament, for the first time since 1962, passed a vote of no confidence against the government. As a result, Prime Minister Michel Barnier, who had been appointed in September, and his government resigned. The reason for this was Barnier's unilateral approval of the budget without consulting Parliament.

French politician and writer François René Jean Lucien Bayrou was born on May 25, 1951, in Borderes. He previously served as France’s Minister of Justice and Minister of Education, chaired the Union for French Democracy (UDF), and ran as a presidential candidate in 2002, 2007, and 2012 elections. Additionally, Bayrou is a co-founder of the European Democratic Party.
