Macron Urges Russia to Unconditionally Halt the War in Ukraine
World
Cairo, April 7, 2025 — French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Russian authorities to unconditionally accept the ceasefire proposal initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump, aiming for a full halt to hostilities in Ukraine.
“It is absolutely essential that Russia stop using excuses and stalling tactics in the negotiations,” Macron stated during his official visit to Egypt’s capital.
According to the French president, almost a month has passed since the U.S. proposal was made, yet Russia not only rejected it but has intensified strikes on civilian areas, resulting in numerous casualties.
Macron emphasized his commitment to a “sustainable and long-term peace that ensures the security of both Ukraine and all of Europe.”
During the March 11 talks held in Saudi Arabia, Ukrainian authorities agreed to the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the U.S. delegation. Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the idea as “reasonable,” but insisted that certain conditions — including Ukraine’s suspension of mobilization and arms procurement during the ceasefire — must be met.
In closing, Macron reiterated the urgent need to end the war in the region, framing it as a critical move toward restoring peace and stability in Europe.
