Munich Prosecutors Drop Sanctions Case Against Alisher Usmanov
The Munich Prosecutor’s Office has dismissed charges against Alisher Usmanov related to alleged breaches of European Union sanctions. The case was closed after Usmanov agreed to make a voluntary charitable contribution, his representatives told RBC.

The proceedings were terminated under Section 153a of Germany’s Criminal Procedure Code, which allows cases to be closed without a conviction if certain conditions are met.

Prosecutors had claimed that between April and September 2022 Usmanov paid for security services for properties in the municipality of Rottach-Egern through foreign companies and failed to declare assets in Germany. His lawyers denied any connection between Usmanov and the companies or properties in question.

Earlier, prosecutors in Frankfurt am Main also dropped a separate investigation into Usmanov on suspicion of money laundering, returning property seized during searches.

Usmanov has been under EU sanctions since February 2022 and has since pursued legal action seeking their removal.
