New Airport in Bukhara
Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the construction of an international airport in Bukhara. Airports across the country are undergoing active modernization, as outdated flight management and passenger service systems, along with limited waiting areas, hinder the increase in the number of flights. As a result, many tourists have to travel to Bukhara via Tashkent, Samarkand, or Urgench. For instance, over the past nine months, more than 1 million foreign tourists visiting Bukhara arrived by train or car.
The region is actively developing its hotel infrastructure and pilgrimage tourism, with plans to increase the number of tourists in Bukhara to 8 million over the next three years. In this regard, the construction of a new international airport in the Bukhara district began in May this year during the president's visit. The project aims to create infrastructure based on public-private partnership that meets international standards, with the capacity to serve 1,200 passengers per hour.
The president also emphasized the need to double the airport's capacity to accommodate and dispatch 8 aircraft per hour and provided recommendations for creating comfortable conditions in the terminal, as well as for its internal and external appearance.
