WHO says no unusual virus outbreaks have been detected in China

In recent weeks, there have been reports of a sharp rise in cases of pneumonia among children caused by an unknown virus in China.
To clarify the situation, the World Health Organisation has sent an official request to the National Health Commission of the PRC
The responsible representative of WHO Maria Van Kerkhove, analysing the information provided on the outbreaks of the disease, noted that no unusual or new pathogens have been identified that caused the increase in the number of cases of pneumonia among children in China.
The expert concluded that the increase in respiratory illnesses was due to the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions in the country and a seasonal outbreak of existing infections.
However, the current epidemic is not at an acute stage like in 2018-2019. On the other hand, there have been no signs related to the emergence of new outbreaks of the virus.
In this context, a statement was made by the representative of the National Health Commission of the PRC Mi Feng. It is noted that the growth of acute respiratory diseases in the country is associated with the simultaneous circulation of several types of pathogens. The main of them is influenza.
