Olzhas Bektenov appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree appointing Olzhas Bektenov as Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, the press service of the head of state reported.
After the resignation of Alikhan Smailov, who headed the government of Kazakhstan since January 2022, the government of the country has resigned. Tokayev instructed to fulfil the duties of the Cabinet until the formation of a new government. Bektenov's candidacy for the post of Prime Minister was proposed by the largest political party Amanat, and the Majilis gave its consent to his appointment. The decree of the head of state notes that Olzhas Bektenov was relieved of his previous position.
Since April 2023, Bektenov has served as head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan. In different periods of time headed the anti-corruption agency, the Ministry of Justice, the financial police and the capital's Akimat.
