Key Measures on Energy Efficiency Discussed
Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on August 27 to address energy conservation and the expansion of alternative energy sources in Uzbekistan. This initiative is part of the ongoing effort to meet the country’s growing energy demands.
During the meeting, it was noted that targeted benchmarks for electricity and natural gas savings had been set for the regions at the beginning of the year. During the President’s July visit to the Fergana region, scientifically-based strategies were outlined to exceed these goals by double. Scientists from the Fergana Polytechnic Institute analyzed electricity consumption in the Fergana district. They found that annual losses at the Log'on substation, which serves 4,600 households and 233 businesses, amount to 5 million kilowatt-hours, which is 1.5 times the standard loss rate.
According to calculations, by evenly distributing the load among 113 transformers receiving power from this substation, 765,000 kilowatt-hours of loss can be prevented. Importantly, this can be achieved without significant investment—proper management at the district power grid company is all that’s needed. Additionally, installing reactive power batteries on 44 transformers that supply water pumps could reduce losses by 1.1 million kilowatt-hours per year, with costs being recouped within a year.
In Qoraqalpog‘iston, significant results have been achieved in gas savings. In 95,000 households, replacing old stoves with energy-efficient models and insulating heating systems has saved 145 million cubic meters of gas annually. The local budget has funded the installation of such stoves in an additional 16,000 needy families, saving another 20 million cubic meters of gas.
During the meeting, regional governors and energy sector leaders reported on the measures being taken to conserve electricity and natural gas across the country.
