"One Step Away from World War III"

The US has temporarily closed its embassy in Kyiv and advised American citizens to immediately shelter in case of an air raid alert.

"One Step Away from World War III"
This warning is based on specific intelligence and applies to the entire territory of Ukraine.

In a statement, the embassy said:

"The US Embassy has received information about a significant air attack threat and is closing as a precaution. Embassy staff have been instructed to shelter in place. US citizens are advised to be prepared to shelter immediately if an air raid alert is announced."

A New Phase in the Ukraine-Russia Conflict

The warning came after the US approved the supply of anti-personnel landmines to Ukraine and granted permission for the use of long-range missiles.

Recently, Ukraine used US-provided Atacms missiles to target an ammunition depot in Russia’s southwestern Bryansk region.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow would respond "appropriately" to this action.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin revised his nuclear doctrine, lowering the threshold for nuclear weapon use. Russian lawmakers described these developments as "one step closer to World War III."

However, the Pentagon reported that it had seen no indications of Russia preparing to use nuclear weapons and criticized Russian statements as "irresponsible rhetoric."

US Weapon Supplies to Ukraine

The US decision to supply anti-personnel mines aims to slow Russian advances in eastern Ukraine.

These mines are to be used solely within Ukrainian territory, avoiding civilian-populated areas. Unlike Russian mines, US mines become inert after their batteries deplete and do not detonate afterward.

Risk of Escalation

The Biden administration’s decision to permit the use of long-range missiles on the 1,000th day of the war has heightened tensions.

Russia accuses the West of deliberately escalating the conflict. Meanwhile, the likelihood of Russia retaliating through hybrid warfare methods—which blur conflict boundaries and expand the scope of the battlefield—has increased, according to The Guardian.
