President Emomali Rahmon's state visit to China proved to be more than a formal diplomatic gesture: the signing of a historic "Treaty of Eternal Friendship" and an in-depth tour of AI-driven electric vehicle production facilities in Chongqing signal a massive technological transformation for Tajikistan under Beijing's mentorship.
From May 12 to 13, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan is conducting a state visit to China, marking a pivotal milestone in bilateral relations. High-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping took place in Beijing, resulting in the signing of a record-breaking package of 31 documents. The motto of the new agreements—"Friends forever, enemies never"—underscores an unprecedented level of trust between the leaders.
China remains Dushanbe's primary economic partner, with over 700 Chinese enterprises already operating successfully in Tajikistan. During the visit, the parties outlined cooperation paths in artificial intelligence, the green economy, and digitalization. Humanitarian ties were also a major focus, with Beijing agreeing to increase quotas for Tajik students in engineering and IT fields. Regional security, particularly the situation in Afghanistan, was also addressed.
On the second day of the visit, the President traveled to Chongqing to tour the Seres plant, which manufactures premium Huawei Aito electric vehicles. Emomali Rahmon personally observed the application of AI in production management and instructed his government to establish partnerships with such technological giants. The visit concluded with an invitation for Xi Jinping to pay a reciprocal visit to Tajikistan, solidifying the course toward long-term strategic convergence.
