Trump Outlines Three Scenarios for Further US Action in Iran Conflict

US President Donald Trump said Washington is considering three possible courses of action in its conflict with Iran: maintaining the current strategy, launching another major strike, or intensifying economic pressure. He made the remarks in an interview with political commentator Wayne Allyn Root.
“We have three strategies. Do what I’m doing now: just continue in the same direction and watch how badly they’re doing… Or hit them very, very hard. Or defeat them economically, but we’re doing that anyway,” Trump said.
The US president also described the current strategy, including economic pressure on Iran and measures affecting shipping around the Strait of Hormuz, as effective. He said Iran’s economic situation was deteriorating and that its currency had “practically” lost its value.
Trump previously said that the United States and Iran were pursuing a new agreement with mediation from Middle Eastern countries. On August 9, however, he said the negotiations were not proceeding at full strength.
The comments come as the conflict continues and diplomatic efforts are underway to establish the terms of a new agreement. Reuters described the options outlined by Trump primarily as continuing economic pressure or launching another military attack.
