Participation in the Green Card lottery will become paid
Uzbekistan
Starting September 16, participation in the Green Card lottery is no longer free: the U.S. State Department has introduced a mandatory $1 registration fee.
Previously, entering the Diversity Visa program was completely free, with only the winners covering costs — they pay $330 for an immigrant visa. Now, the $1 fee must be paid immediately upon submitting the application on the official website.
According to the State Department, the new rule will distribute costs more fairly among all participants, rather than placing the burden solely on the winners. With around 25 million applications submitted annually, the fee is expected to bring in about $25 million a year.
Uzbekistan consistently ranks among the top countries in terms of applications and recently took first place worldwide for the number of Green Card winners.
