Pashinyan Retains Power: Prime Minister's Party Takes Half of the Seats in Armenia's New Parliament

Armenia has determined its political future for the coming years. The parliamentary elections held on June 7, which saw the participation of 18 political forces at once, concluded with a decisive victory for the incumbent government. Despite analysts' predictions of a potential fracture, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party managed to secure half of the popular vote. Concurrently, only three key political forces succeeded in breaking into the country's supreme legislative body, pushing all other competitors past the strict electoral threshold.
In the Armenian parliamentary elections held on June 7, the ruling "Civil Contract" party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan holds a commanding lead. According to the CEC data following the count of 94% of the ballots, it secures 50.07% of the vote.
Based on preliminary results, only three political forces out of the 18 that participated will be represented in the new parliament. The "Strong Armenia" alliance, led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, claimed second place with 23.35% of the vote. The top three was rounded out by the "Armenia" bloc, headed by former President Robert Kocharyan, which garnered 9.96%. Other participants, including the "Prosperous Armenia" party (3.99%) and the "Wings of Unity" party (2.28%), failed to clear the established electoral threshold, which was set at 4% for parties and between 8% and 10% for various coalitions.
