Peskov: Putin has not yet registered as a presidential candidate
The campaign to re-elect Vladimir Putin for a new presidential term has actually begun, but all the necessary formalities have yet to be fulfilled. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, on 8 December when asked whether this day could be called the beginning of Putin's election campaign.

"If you want to speak de facto, then probably yes. If you want to talk de jure, no. He's not registered as a candidate yet. We will still let you know how he will run, he still needs to register as a candidate, fulfil all the necessary formalities, and only after that he will become a presidential candidate during the election campaign," Peskov told reporters.

The Kremlin spokesman added that some aspects related to Putin's candidacy for the Russian presidency have yet to be determined. "As the relevant decisions are made, we will keep you informed," he said. According to Peskov, Putin is expected to attend the United Russia congress to be held on 17 December.
