Plastic Bags May Be Banned in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan
Starting from 2027, Uzbekistan is considering a ban on the production, import, and use of polyethylene bags. It is also planned to require manufacturers and importers of goods in plastic packaging to establish special places for collecting and recycling these items.
A national program aimed at reducing plastic pollution from 2025 to 2027 is planned to be developed in Uzbekistan. This project has been presented for public discussion as part of the current year's state program.
Starting from 2027, it is proposed to prohibit the production, import, and use of plastic bags, as well as to encourage the use of environmentally friendly (biodegradable) bags.
In addition, the plan includes limiting the use of harmful substances in the chemical composition of plastic products and setting coefficients for the use of recycled plastic in packaging.
The draft document is expected to be developed by September 2025 and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by November 2025.
In more than 100 countries worldwide, partial or full bans on single-use plastic bags have been implemented. From 2010 to 2019, the number of state programs aimed at gradually eliminating plastic increased threefold.
