President Approves Construction of New Jizzakh
Uzbekistan
A new city, New Jizzakh, will be built in Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region as part of a broader plan to accelerate the region’s socio-economic development.
President Шавкат Мирзиёев has signed a resolution on additional measures to speed up the socio-economic development of Jizzakh region in 2026–2027.
Under the document, New Jizzakh will be constructed on a 40-hectare vacant land plot located between the city of Jizzakh and Sharaf-Rashidov district. The first phase of the project предусматривает the construction of 50 multi-storey residential buildings comprising 1,200 apartments.
The resolution sets ambitious targets for the region, including average annual growth of gross regional product at 8.5%, industrial output at 7.8%, market services at 13.2%, and agricultural production at 4.6% over the 2026–2027 period.
It also aims to reduce unemployment to 3% and poverty to 2.8% by 2026, with several cities and districts — including Jizzakh and Sharaf-Rashidov — expected to become areas free from poverty and unemployment.
In addition, the program provides for the renewal of 5,000 hectares of old orchards and vineyards and the establishment of five entrepreneurship centers covering 40 local communities. The New Jizzakh project is seen as a key element in the region’s comprehensive development strategy.
