President Criticized “Sleeping Hokims” and Poor Condition of Major Roads
Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a video conference dedicated to enhancing the tourism potential of the regions and accelerating investment projects carried out with foreign partners.
The Head of State noted that a critical situation is currently unfolding in the global economy — within just three to four days, $10 trillion was lost in international financial markets.
“Those who think these fluctuations won’t affect us are mistaken. After all, a portion of these funds could have entered our country in the form of investments, loans, or Eurobonds,” the President said.
Economic sector leaders were instructed to analyze problems weekly, sector by sector, and propose new solutions. Regional and district governors (hokims) were tasked with resolving issues faced by entrepreneurs on-site.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that many hokims still fail to grasp the significance of the tourism sector.
Despite more than a month passing since the start of the tourism season, only Kitob district has launched a capsule housing site. The remaining 35 hokims of districts and cities were criticized for "sleeping on the job."
It was announced that subsidies of up to 10 million soums would be allocated from the Tourism Fund for the construction and equipment of capsule houses.
In addition, complaints from foreign tourists about the condition of major roads in Khorezm, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya were highlighted.
As a result, responsible officials were instructed to make accurate calculations and start road repair work on both main and internal routes that are part of the “tourism ring.”
