South Korean investigators abandoned their intention to arrest the ousted president Yoon Suk Yeol after hours of confrontation.

The Arrest of the South Korean President Is Impossible
“According to our assessment, the arrest is impossible due to strong resistance. We are concerned about the safety of our team involved in the operation. The consequences of such firm resistance from the accused could lead to unfavorable outcomes,” stated representatives of South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Bureau.

Earlier this week, a Seoul district court issued an arrest warrant for President Yoon.

On Friday, investigators arrived at Yoon’s residence to arrest him but were stopped by the president’s security service.

In early December, Yoon Suk Yeol unsuccessfully attempted to declare martial law in the country as part of his struggle against the opposition. Following this, the parliament impeached him and accused him of attempting a coup.

Yoon’s lawyers argued that both the arrest warrant and the arrest attempt were unlawful.
