President meets with representatives of the Tashkent region

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a ceremonial event with representatives of the Tashkent region at Yangi Uzbekistan Park in Nurafshon.
The event brought together representatives of the older generation, young people, and community activists. The President warmly greeted those present and said he was pleased to meet with the people of the region once again.
Until recently, despite its significant economic and investment potential, the Tashkent region did not have its own administrative center. In a short period, Nurafshon has been transformed, with modern administrative, social, and cultural infrastructure established across the city.
The city is home to Yangi Uzbekistan and Vatanparvar parks, a memorial complex honoring the selfless Zulfiya Zakirova, public squares and tree-lined avenues, an artificial lake, an amphitheater, fountains, and cycling and pedestrian paths.
“Every enterprise, every street and building, every square and public garden here is the result of the work we have carried out together with the tireless, hardworking, and dedicated people of the region,” the President said.
It was emphasized that today Nurafshon stands as a symbol of New Uzbekistan. The city's name means "radiating light" or "the light of enlightenment." Accordingly, it should stand out not only for its modern appearance but also for its development, culture, governance, and care for its people.
Nurafshon is the country's first city to be developed under the Smart City model. Here, digital governance, cultural facilities, intelligent transport systems, energy-efficient technologies, and environmentally sustainable infrastructure are being implemented as a single, integrated system.
The President stressed that the ultimate goal is to transform Nurafshon into a city of science, high technology, and youth. A modern Youth Town is under construction, featuring a 1,000-seat Palace of Culture, a regional branch of the Academy of Arts, an Artificial Intelligence Center, an Information and Resource Library, and a Professions Center.
On the same day, the foundation stone was laid for the Future Technologies Center, which will be built on a 35-hectare site. The center will become a national hub for artificial intelligence and digitalization, serving not only the Tashkent region but the entire country. It will house research centers and high-tech laboratories.
As part of the Nurafshon Business City project, administrative, business, educational, healthcare, cultural, and residential districts are being developed as a single integrated complex. In particular, a 700-bed multidisciplinary medical center will be built on a 10-hectare site, providing more than 60 types of specialized, high-tech medical services through the use of telemedicine and robotic technologies.
A major tourist and cultural complex featuring an Eastern Bazaar, artisan streets, national pavilions, an amphitheater, and modern recreational facilities is also under construction and is expected to become one of the city's landmarks.
It was also noted that the Tashkent region is one of the pillars of the national economy. The region accounts for about 10 percent of Uzbekistan's gross domestic product. Over the past five years, it has attracted $16 billion in foreign investment. Today, nearly 3,000 enterprises with foreign capital operate in the region, while exports have approached $3 billion.
The Head of State also spoke about new projects aimed at developing the Tashkent region and the capital as a single economic and transport area. Plans include expanding public transport links between the region and Tashkent, as well as launching modern passenger rail services between Tashkent and Nurafshon.
“Together with you, the entrepreneurs, farmers, members of the intelligentsia, representatives of the older generation, and young people of the Tashkent region, we will continue to develop this region, turning it into a strong pillar of the national economy.
I firmly believe in this. As President, I will devote all my strength to ensuring a peaceful, prosperous, and happy life for the hardworking people of the Tashkent region, just as I do for our entire nation,” the President said at the conclusion of his remarks.
The event continued with a cultural program.
