Today, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by Akihisa Nagashima, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan. The Special Advisor conveyed greetings and a personal letter from Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishibani to the head of state.

According to the President’s press service, the meeting addressed key issues related to strengthening the friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan, as well as expanding multifaceted cooperation and practical collaboration.

It was emphasized that Japan views Uzbekistan as a reliable and long-term strategic partner in ensuring and strengthening free and open international cooperation based on the rule of law.

It was particularly noted that the Japanese government highly values the dynamic development of bilateral relations in areas such as economic and innovative cooperation, energy, industry, infrastructure, and the social sector. Additionally, the rapid advancement of educational and cultural exchanges, tourism, labor migration programs, and effective regional collaboration were highlighted.

In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries increased by 35%. The portfolio of joint projects with leading Japanese companies and banks exceeds $12 billion. Nearly 100 joint enterprises and organizations, including the Uzbekistan-Japan Center, are successfully operating in Uzbekistan.

The Uzbek leader emphasized the importance of continuing active high-level dialogues and mutual visits. The parties expressed satisfaction with the rich agenda of cooperation in trade, economic, investment, and financial-technical fields, including Japan’s Development Assistance Program.

President Mirziyoyev wished the Japanese government success in hosting the upcoming World Expo, which will begin in April this year in Osaka.

The parties also exchanged views on regional cooperation in preparation for the upcoming first summit in the “Central Asia + Japan” format.
