President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is participating in the first session of the new convocation of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
It was noted that the elections held in our country are also marking the beginning of a new era in the activities of local councils.
As a result of constitutional reforms, the structure of the Senate has been streamlined, and the number of its members reduced from 100 to 65.
At the same time, the powers and responsibilities of senators have increased several times over.
In particular, the role of the upper house in parliamentary oversight and the formation of several important state bodies has been significantly expanded.
Previously, senators did not have clear authority to address issues identified in laws during oversight activities or meetings with voters.
The updated Constitution resolved this issue by granting the Senate the right to propose legislative initiatives.
The President expressed confidence that our newly elected senators will now actively participate in these processes.
