At the landmark 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a keynote address outlining the priorities of a new global order. His message was clear: today demands bold decisions, open dialogue, and concrete action.

President's Speech at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly
This week, Tashkent became the center of global parliamentarism, hosting the IPU Assembly for the first time in Central Asian history. The event gathered over 2,000 delegates from nearly 140 countries, including heads of 181 national parliaments.

Opening the Assembly, President Mirziyoyev emphasized that holding this forum in Tashkent affirms Uzbekistan’s democratic progress and the growing importance of representative institutions.

"You are like a bridge connecting nations," he said, addressing the parliamentarians and highlighting their crucial role in addressing global challenges — from conflict resolution to social inequality.

Five Global Challenges — Five Uzbek Initiatives
The President identified several key areas of focus:

Peace and Security — advocating diplomacy over conflict, supporting peaceful resolutions in Ukraine and the Middle East, and calling for engagement with Afghanistan, not its isolation.

Climate Change — strengthening parliamentary oversight of the Paris Agreement and accelerating the shift toward a green economy.

Women’s Empowerment — increasing the share of women in parliament to 38%, with gender equality seen as a matter of justice and development.

Youth — proposing the creation of a Global Platform of Youth Parliaments and hosting its first forum in Uzbekistan.

Social Protection and Poverty Reduction — lifting 7 million people out of poverty, with a goal to reduce poverty to 6% by 2025. A global conference on poverty reduction is planned for this autumn.

The President also called for ethical regulation of artificial intelligence and proposed a model law that could serve as an international standard.

In conclusion, he stressed that Uzbekistan’s proposals align with the IPU’s strategic goals for 2026 and will be reflected in the Tashkent Declaration, the final document of the Assembly.
