According to the Chinese ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui, the Chinese leadership expects a visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin this year. He emphasised that such a visit will “definitely” take place and that it is expected.
The ambassador also noted that the heads of the two countries plan to hold talks before the beginning of next year, and that Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping intend to meet several times.
In addition, on 9 February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry commented on Vladimir Putin's interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson. The ministry agreed with the Russian president's statements about the need for a negotiated settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
During the interview, Putin also noted that China pursued a non-aggressive foreign policy, despite widespread "scaremongering" about cooperation with Moscow.
