Putin warns West against sending troops to Ukraine
He accused the West of trying to drag Russia into an arms race and said it was necessary to strengthen defences on its western border in the wake of Sweden and Finland joining NATO. Putin also said that the West provoked the conflict in Ukraine and continues to lie, claiming that Russia intends to attack Europe.

Several NATO countries ruled out deploying troops to Ukraine, and the United States criticised the Russian president for his remarks about the possibility of nuclear war. Putin boasted of modern Russian weaponry, including hypersonic aircraft and unmanned underwater vehicles, and said Russia's strategic nuclear forces are ready for use.

He also discussed domestic issues, including modernising the tax system and measures to improve life expectancy in Russia.
