Qatari officials mediating an agreement between Israel and Hamas have officially announced that Hamas will release at least 50 Israeli hostages, declare a four-day truce in Gaza for the delivery of humanitarian aid, and that an agreement with Israel has been reached.
"The agreement includes the release of 50 civilian women and children hostages currently held in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of a number of Palestinian women and children detained in Israeli prisons, the number of those released will be increased in later stages of implementing the agreement," the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The talks were attended by Qatari officials as well as Egyptian and US representatives. Washington had earlier announced that the agreement would come into force "in about 24 hours" after it was announced by Qatari authorities.
