Russia is accused of abusing its status in the UN Security Council
Representatives of the United States, Britain, France, Malta, Slovenia, South Korea, Japan and Ukraine in the UN Security Council have accused Russia of taking advantage of its position as a permanent member of the Council by buying North Korean missiles and attacking Ukraine. This was said in a statement published on Wednesday, 10 January, on the website of the press service of the US mission to the UN.

The text of the joint statement also indicates that the export of weapons from the DPRK to Russia grossly violates numerous UN Security Council resolutions.

"It's abhorrent that a permanent member of the UN Security Council is flagrantly violating Council resolutions to attack another UN member state," Reuters quoted US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Robert Wood as saying at the meeting.

The US representative added that Russia's actions also violate the global system of non-proliferation of assassination weapons.

Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia responded to the accusations by saying that it was obviously false information, but did not issue a direct denial.
