Russia returns to the EU's top five cereal suppliers
World
For the first time since March 2022, Russia has become one of the five largest grain suppliers to the EU.
In September, the European Union bought the maximum amount of grain from Russia since March last year, as a result of which the country became one of the top five suppliers of the Union for the first time in a year and a half. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Eurostat data.
According to the information provided, the EU has sharply increased purchases of Russian grain - by 22% per month and 10 times per year, that is, up to 180 thousand tonnes. This is the maximum volume of purchases since March 2022, allowing Russia to become the fourth largest exporter of grain to the EU.
It is noted that Ukraine is the main import destination for the EU. The second main supplier is Brazil, and the top three also included Turkey, which sent 204,000 tonnes of grain to the EU. Canada is in fifth place.
