Russians' Debt on Loan Interest Exceeded 600 Billion Rubles in 2024
Throughout 2023, the amount of accrued interest grew by 8.5%, while from January to November 2024, it increased by 22.2%. This represents a record growth over four years, linked to an increase in the demand for loans among the population and a rise in interest rates.

A representative of the Central Bank of Russia explained to RBC that this sum cannot be classified as overdue debt. Repayment terms for the interest may vary, but according to reporting standards, lenders are still required to account for the accrued interest on their balance sheets until it is actually paid.

The increase in accrued interest is associated with the growing demand for loans among the population and the rise in the key interest rate. According to the Central Bank representative, these changes are mainly due to shifts in the economic situation.
