Trump clinched the 270 electoral votes necessary to reclaim the presidency with projected wins in Pennsylvania and Alaska, marking an unprecedented return nearly four years after leaving office.

Donald Trump Clinches Historic Comeback Victory, Returning to the White House
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris despite facing significant hurdles, including a criminal trial, two assassination attempts, and a change in Democratic leadership following President Biden’s withdrawal. Trump is now the first president since Grover Cleveland in 1892 to lose the White House and regain it in a subsequent term.

During his campaign, Trump capitalized on voter discontent over economic challenges and migration issues, gaining substantial ground among Latino and Black voters. His campaign heavily focused on rural areas and battleground states, flipping key states back into the Republican column.

Exit polls indicated that Trump made significant gains with Latino voters and ran nearly even with Harris among young men, a demographic that his campaign strategically targeted. Using an innovative approach to voter outreach, Trump’s team partnered with outside groups to reach battleground state voters, overcoming Harris’s strong infrastructure.

At 78, Trump becomes the oldest president elected in U.S. history. He has pledged to focus on policies from his previous term, including extending tax cuts, scaling back environmental regulations, and restructuring key government agencies. Though ineligible to run again in 2028, Trump’s second term could further shape the Republican Party in his vision.
