Sacred Places to Be Renovated and Developed
Uzbekistan
On March 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand and paid homage to the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari. Verses from the Quran were recited, and prayers were offered.
"Yesterday, we celebrated Navruz with our people. Today, in the sacred month of Ramadan, we are here in this blessed place. We express our gratitude to the Almighty for granting us peace and tranquility on these great days. May our country always remain peaceful, our people prosperous, and may all our good intentions come true. We are building this complex in a way that befits Imam Bukhari. It should serve not only as a place of pilgrimage but also as a center of enlightenment, education, and moral inspiration," said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The mausoleum of Imam Bukhari is a revered site for the entire Islamic world. Under the president’s initiative, a new complex is being built here to provide better conditions for the numerous pilgrims.
The total area of the complex is 44 hectares. As of today, construction of the grand mausoleum and a mosque for 10,000 worshippers has been completed. Four minarets, each 75 meters high, add a majestic touch to the complex. Additionally, a museum, ayvans (open-air halls), administrative, and service buildings have been built.
Currently, finishing works are underway, incorporating national architectural traditions and warm-toned designs. The portals and walls of the ayvans will be adorned with hadiths from "Sahih al-Bukhari."
Furthermore, the site will include more than 20 hotels with a total capacity of 2,000 guests, gardens, and four ablution areas (tahoratkhona).
This year, Uzbekistan will widely celebrate the 1,155th anniversary of Imam Maturidi’s birth. According to a presidential decree, his complex in Samarkand will be renovated and improved. During the visit, the president was presented with this project.
As outlined, the Imam Maturidi complex will feature a grand mosque for 1,500 worshippers, an administrative building, a library, a conference hall, an innovative museum, and rooms for specialists. A parking area and tahoratkhona will also be built nearby for visitors.
The president emphasized the need to further study and promote the country’s rich heritage and to expand facilities for visitors to the complex.
Additionally, the historic sites of other scholars, philosophers, and saints who emerged from Samarkand will be gradually restored and enhanced.
