Saida Mirziyoyeva: Uzbekfilm Should Become a National Brand and a Hub of Modern Cinema

Mirziyoyeva described Uzbekfilm as the cradle of national cinema, which for nearly a century has reflected the history, fate and experiences of the Uzbek people on screen. She said the industry’s management system needs to be changed to support further development.

According to Mirziyoyeva, the state should no longer act as a client interfering in the creative process, but as a strategic partner that creates conditions for the development and financial support of cinema. Private film studios, independent producers and creators should become the industry’s main driving force.

The entire chain from film production to audiences is to be modernised, including financing, distribution, theatrical release, participation in festivals and exports. The system for preserving, restoring and digitising the country’s national cinematic heritage is also expected to be strengthened.

Plans also include expanding opportunities to train a new generation of industry professionals and increasing international exchanges of experience. Mirziyoyeva stressed the importance of building a genuinely professional environment and a culture of self-regulation in which the views, experience and authority of directors and other film creators are properly valued.

At the end of her visit, she toured the set of a historical film about the childhood of Abu Ali ibn Sina. Mirziyoyeva praised the scale of the sets and the work of the creative team, wishing the filmmakers success and looking forward to the film’s premiere.
