The meeting brought together senior officials from the ministries of internal affairs, justice, healthcare, and education, as well as representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Supreme Court, National Agency for Social Protection, Women’s Committee, Mahalla Association, the Children’s Ombudsman, and Nemolchi.Uz founder Irina Matvienko.

Mirziyoyeva noted that Uzbekistan was the first country in Central Asia to adopt a law against domestic violence and to strengthen criminal liability for sexual crimes against children. However, she stressed that further steps are needed.

“An effective and rapid response system to cases of violence must be established,” she said.

According to her, the true scale of the problem is often concealed due to fear of statistics, sanctions, and criticism, which undermines real protection for victims.

She urged all responsible institutions to take a firm and uncompromising stance against all forms of violence, emphasizing that the protection of women’s and children’s rights must be ensured through action, not words.

“Human lives matter far more than statistics,” Mirziyoyeva concluded.

In April 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed legislative amendments aimed at strengthening the protection of women’s and children’s rights. In autumn 2024, Uzbekistan also adopted the law “On the Protection of Children from All Forms of Violence”.
