Within the framework of the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly, a Declaration on granting Samarkand the status of "World Capital of Cultural Tourism" was adopted.

Samarkand was awarded the status of "World Capital of Cultural Tourism"
Within the framework of the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), held in Samarkand, under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a declaration on granting Samarkand the status of "World Capital of Cultural Tourism" and an agreement on the establishment of the International Academy of Tourism were adopted.

The documents were signed by Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of UNWTO.
