The meeting focused on the development of palliative and hospice care in Uzbekistan — a system designed to support people with serious and incurable diseases, where pain relief, care, and attention to individual needs are especially important.

According to specialists, nearly 100,000 people in Uzbekistan require such care every year.

The discussion involved international experts, including Michael McNeil, Director of the Global Palliative Care Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Anna Sonkin, Coordinator of the European Program at St. Jude, and Patricia Julli, a specialist from the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

The experts shared their experience in organizing palliative care systems in different countries and spoke about approaches to supporting patients and their families.

Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva emphasized the importance of relying on the best global practices to develop palliative care in Uzbekistan so that such support becomes accessible to everyone who needs it.

She noted that much work still lies ahead, but cooperation with international partners will help advance this important area of healthcare.
