Shavkat Mirziyoyev has put forward important initiatives for the development of the silk and carpet industry in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev extensively analyzed the silk industry and carpet production during a videoconference meeting on May 10th. This was reported by the press service of the Uzbek leader.
The need for deep processing of cocoons and increasing the production of finished products, fabrics, and home textiles was emphasized. This should help to secure a place in the European market, which accounts for 45% of the world's silk imports.
It is reported that the low purchase price of cocoons did not stimulate the interest of the population. According to the presidential decree signed recently, the purchase price of cocoons has been increased by 25%. Silk producers are exempt from income and social taxes, and a tax rate of 10% has been set for mulberry plantations.
It is noted that centralized procurement of polypropylene showed its effectiveness last year. This experience will be continued, and funding will be doubled, taking into account the time until receipt of foreign exchange revenue; entrepreneurs will be provided with polypropylene for up to one year.
During the meeting, the head of state held an open dialogue with entrepreneurs operating in the industries under consideration. After hearing the problems and proposals raised by them, he instructed the responsible leaders to assist entrepreneurs in obtaining certificates for entry into European markets, attracting foreign specialists, ensuring access to domestic leather, carpet, and silk products in foreign stores, organizing training for middle-level qualified personnel, and others.
