Shavkat Mirziyoyev Receives World Bank Delegation

On April 10, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank Group.
The meeting focused on further developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, particularly in terms of supporting the country’s economic reform strategy being implemented with the help of this global financial institution.
At the beginning of the meeting, Anna Bjerde conveyed greetings and best wishes from World Bank President Ajay Banga to the head of state.
It was noted with great satisfaction that in recent years, the partnership has reached a high level and yielded substantial results.
Today, Uzbekistan is one of the World Bank’s largest partners, with a project portfolio exceeding $12 billion. The World Bank is providing financial, advisory, and technical assistance to implement reforms aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of key sectors of the economy and the social sphere.
With the Bank’s support, the mechanism for implementing projects involving international financial institutions has been improved, and new procedures were adopted to accelerate project preparation and enhance their quality.
Special attention was paid to cooperation plans in areas such as reducing carbon emissions, urbanization and infrastructure modernization, increasing energy efficiency, improving the investment climate, and supporting Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
The parties also exchanged views on advancing major regional projects.
