Sky Without Borders: IATA Opens Central Asia's First Office in Tashkent
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has solidified its status as a key player in regional aviation logistics. On April 21, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) officially opened its permanent representative office in Tashkent, marking the organization's first-ever branch in Central Asia.
The opening of the Tashkent office—the twelfth in the Eurasian region—was accompanied by a major announcement for the passenger transport market. By the end of 2026, IATA plans to launch the BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan) system in Uzbekistan. This unified global mechanism automates financial settlements between airlines and travel agents, making the ticket sales process highly transparent.
Implementing the standards of IATA, which represents approximately 330 airlines worldwide, will significantly simplify the entry of foreign carriers into the Uzbek market. For passengers, this means increased competition and improved service; for the industry, it signifies a transition to global security and operational protocols. This move confirms Tashkent's ambition to become the central aviation hub connecting Central Asia with the global community.
