Sweden: Muslim man refused to burn Bible and Torah
On Saturday, July 15, 2023, a rally was held in front of the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm, during which Ahmad Alloush, a 32-year-old Swedish citizen, planned to burn the Torah and Bible books, but did not realize his plan, Ynet reports.

The Swedish police granted Alloush's request "so that the complainant could express his opinion". This approach was condemned by Israeli leaders, senior officials in Israel and rabbis. He arrived with a bag of Quran and a lighter, but did not burn any books during the meeting.

Alloush filed a request to burn sacred books in response to the burning of the Quran in front of a major mosque in the Swedish capital two weeks ago. That incident provoked a backlash from the Muslim world in Sweden.

Some Muslim citizens asked him to refrain from burning books. In his call for book burning, Alloush wrote that he decided to do so "in response to the burning of the Quran."

In front of the Israeli embassy, he explained that he wanted to make sure that the Swedish authorities did not selectively enforce laws regarding the burning of religious texts, citing the Quran burning incident.

“This is not antisemitism or a hate crime,” he told those present. The Swedish police said they did not investigate his possible motives because of Sweden's right to freedom of speech.
