According to U.S. media, al-Sharaa played alongside U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Brad Cooper and the head of the international anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq, Gen. Kevin Lambert. The informal game was seen as a symbolic gesture of goodwill amid a cautious warming of ties between Damascus and Washington.

Official talks between the Syrian and U.S. presidents are scheduled for later today. The agenda includes discussions on lifting sanctions, reopening economic cooperation, and Syria’s potential accession to the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State, formed in 2014.

Observers describe al-Sharaa’s visit as historic — marking the first time in over eight decades that a Syrian president has visited the White House. Analysts believe the visit could signal the beginning of a new chapter in U.S.–Syrian relations.
