On 18 March, forces of the radical Taliban movement launched strikes in Pakistan in response to raids on Paktika and Khost provinces in Afghanistan. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the defence ministry in the interim government formed by the Taliban.

The military establishment noted that Afghanistan does not allow anyone to jeopardise security by using Afghan territory.

The spokesman emphasised that Pakistan should not blame Afghanistan for lack of control, incompetence and problems on its own territory. Such incidents could have very bad consequences that Pakistan cannot control, he said.

It should be noted that the operation was carried out in response to an attack on 16 March by militants of the radical group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan on a Pakistan Armed Forces base in the town of Mir Ali in the border district of North Waziristan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province), as a result of which seven servicemen were killed.
