A School of Traditional Arts is being established in Tashkent with the support of the UK Royal Foundation, aiming to strengthen international cultural cooperation and train a new generation of masters in traditional and applied arts.

The institution is expected to become a major educational center in the field of traditional craftsmanship, bringing together local and international experts. The project is backed by the government and implemented in partnership with the Royal Foundation of the United Kingdom.

Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation plans to establish a School of Traditional Arts in Tashkent, according to a draft government decree. The school may receive the status of a supplementary education institution.

The school will train specialists in traditional and applied arts, develop new educational programs, produce teaching materials and carry out academic research. The initiative is supported by the UK Royal Foundation, and the director of its School of Traditional Arts (KFSTA), Dr. Khalid Azzam, will join the leadership of the new institution in Tashkent.

The project also includes the involvement of international teachers and students. The school will be located in the building of the Calligraphy School at the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent’s Almazar district.

The cooperation was first discussed in February at a meeting between the head of the Foundation, Gayane Umerova, and Dr. Azzam. In June, during the Tashkent International Investment Forum, both sides signed a memorandum outlining the creation of the School of Traditional Arts and Crafts. In autumn, the Foundation and KFSTA announced the launch of a joint project — the Naqsh Craft School.

The establishment of the new educational institution marks an important step in developing Uzbekistan’s creative industries and expanding international cultural cooperation.
