Termez – The New UN Humanitarian Aid Center
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has gained a new status in the international humanitarian system: the Termez transport and logistics center, established in 2022, has officially been included in the UN Global Supply Network. It will now serve as a key hub for delivering aid to Afghanistan and other countries in the region.
A ceremonial event in Termez marked the integration of the Termez Cargo Center into the Global Supply Network of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). With this, Uzbekistan has joined a global humanitarian logistics infrastructure alongside strategic hubs in Dubai, Amman, Copenhagen, and Panama City.
Why Termez? The recognition as an international UNHCR warehouse is due to the city's advantageous geographic location, developed transport infrastructure, and skilled personnel. The hub will ensure the prompt delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and other countries in Central and South Asia, while also allowing the UN to maintain adequate stockpiles for crisis response.
Global Experts’ Assessment. UN representatives have highly praised Uzbekistan’s role in humanitarian operations. Ismatulla Irgashev, the Special Representative of the President for Afghanistan, noted that the Termez hub has become a symbol of international cooperation and reliability. Meanwhile, UN official Dumitru Lipkanu emphasized that the center has proven its efficiency and will now play a crucial role in global humanitarian missions.
With this step, Uzbekistan strengthens its position not only as a strategic logistics partner of the UN but also as a reliable participant in the international humanitarian system.
