Thailand and Cambodia have signed a new ceasefire agreement aimed at ending weeks of border clashes fueled by territorial disputes.

Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Ceasefire
Thailand and Cambodia on Saturday signed a ceasefire agreement to bring an end to weeks of armed confrontations along their shared border.

The ceasefire took effect around midday local time and commits both sides to halt all military operations and refrain from violating airspace for military purposes.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense said Thai forces carried out airstrikes on Cambodian territory earlier on the day the agreement was signed. Despite this, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the ceasefire.

The deal also includes the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers held by Thailand since fighting began in July. The handover is expected to take place 72 hours after the ceasefire comes into force — a key demand from Phnom Penh during negotiations.
