After the G20 summit in New Delhi, the African Union will become a full member of the G20. This is stated in the draft final declaration of the summit.

“We welcome the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 and firmly believe that the African Union's accession to the G20 will make a significant contribution to solving the global challenges of our time,” Reuters quotes an excerpt from the document.

Earlier, India's G20 member Sherpa Amitabh Kant told reporters that discussing the issue of the UN joining the G20 at the summit would be a formality. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a letter to all G20 leaders in June with this proposal, and they all supported it.

At the same time, agreement on the text of the declaration is still ongoing.

The G20 summit in New Delhi opened on September 9 and will last until September 10.
