The service life of the International Space Station (ISS) is coming to an end. This was stated by the general director of "Roscosmos" Yuri Borisov in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 24".

The head of Roscosmos said that the ISS is "at the end of its life"
"The International Space Station is already approaching the finish line of its existence. <...> it has already exceeded all permissible terms of existence," Borisov said. He noted that 80 per cent of the Russian equipment on the ISS is also beyond the warranty terms of existence.

In February 2022, NASA released a report saying that in January 2031, the ISS will begin a slow descent, after which it will enter the atmosphere and its debris will fall into the uninhabited zone of the South Pacific Ocean.

Earlier, Borisov said that the project to create the Russian Orbital Station (ROS), which will replace the ISS, has been approved and funding has been allocated for it.
